COURSE DESCRIPTION & SYLLABUS

JANUARY 14 TO MARCH 11, 2023 / SATURDAYS @ 9am-12nn

 

I. COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  • At the end of the course, participants will learn the importance of the work of evangelism, discipleship, and mission both in the Scriptres, and the history of the Church.
  • Participants will have some tools to be involved in the work of evangelism, discipleship, and
  • Participants will learn to build their own “evangelism tool kit”.
  • They will learn practical ways to to disciple in the context of family, and the local church.

II. COURSE OUTLINE:

A. INTRODUCTION

  • DEFINING TERMS: EVANGELISM, DISCIPLESHIP, MISSION
  • THE BIBLICAL BASIS OF MISSION
  • THE HISTORY OF MISSION FROM ACTS TO THE MODERN MISSIONARY MOVEMENT
  • REFLECTING ON THE BIBLICAL-HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF MISSION

B. EVANGELISM

  • EVANGELISM AND GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY
  • EVANGELISM AND GOD’S SPIRIT
  • EVANGELISM AND PRAYER
  • HOW TO BUILD A SIMPLE “EVANGELISM TOOL KIT”

C. DISCIPLESHIP

  • THE GREAT COMMANDMENT AND THE GREAT COMMISSION
  • DISCIPLESHIP IN THE FAMILY — THE EXAMPLE OF THE PURITAN TRADITION
  • DISCIPLESHIP IN THE CHURCH — THE USE OF THE MEANS OF GRACE IN DISCIPLING
  • A MODEL OF DISCIPLE-MAKING — USING THE TOOL OF PRIVATE AND PUBLIC READING OF THE SCRIPTURES
