Reformed Church history
I. Course description: The course presents a general panoramic view of the history of the church beginning in the late Medieval period (1300 AD) to the age of the reformation. It will highlight the major figures in history which flamed the spark of the Reformation (1600’s). The last session will focus on the history of the CRCP from its beginning to the present .
II. Course schedule
- The seed of the Reformation (1300 -1400)
- John Wycliffe (1329-1384)
- John Hus (1373-1415)
- Girolamo Savonarola (1452-1498)
- Troubles existing in the Roman church
- The Rise of humanism – Petrarch (1304-1374) – The Gutenberg printing press – Desiderius Erasmus – other humanists
- William Tyndale (1494-1536)
- The rise of bible translations
- The Reformers and the causes of the Reformation (1500-1800 CE)
- 10. Ulrich Zwingly (1484-1531)
- Martin Luther (1483-1546)
- John Calvin (1509-1564)
- Other reformed movements
III. Course grading system:
Attendance – 20% – must always be on time and on-cam
Midterms – 40%
Finals – 40%
