Course Description:
This course introduces students to the theory and practice of Solution-Focused Pastoral Counseling (SFPC). SFPC is a brief, strengths-based approach that helps individuals and families identify their goals and develop solutions to solve their problems. The course will explore the core principles of SFPC, its integration with faith and religious beliefs, and its application to common pastoral care concerns.
This course is open to pastors, and other church leaders who are interested in gaining skills in Solution- Focused Pastoral Counseling.
Course Learning Objectives:
• Define and explain the core principles of solution-focused pastoral counseling.
• Identify the strengths and limitations of SFPC compared to other counseling approaches.
• Develop skills in solution-focused interviewing techniques.
• Integrate SFPC principles with faith and religious beliefs.
• Apply SFPC to address common pastoral care concerns such as marital conflict, family issues, grief and loss, and spiritual struggles.
• Develop a framework for ethically and competently providing SFPC in a pastoral setting.
